SINGAPORE’S EXPLANATION OF VOTE AFTER THE VOTE ON A/C.1/80/L.55 “TOWARDS A NUCLEAR-WEAPON-FREE WORLD: ACCELERATING THE IMPLEMENTATION OF NUCLEAR DISARMAMENT COMMITMENTS”, 3 NOVEMBER 2025

A concise summary of the main points regarding this article.
Thank you, Mr Chairman.
1 I am taking the floor to explain my delegation’s position on the draft resolution L.55 entitled “Towards a nuclear-weapon-free world: accelerating the implementation of nuclear disarmament commitments”.
2 Singapore voted in favour of this resolution as we remain a strong supporter of concrete and meaningful progress in nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation, which is essential to strengthening international peace and security. We would like to highlight that we have in previous years consistently abstained on the language in PP30 and OP29. While no vote has been called on PP30 and OP29 this year, Singapore would like to reiterate our clear and consistent position on the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW). We recall that our concerns were not fully addressed when the TPNW was adopted, and reiterate that the TPNW should not in any way affect the rights and obligations of States Parties under other treaties and agreements, including the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty, the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, as well as treaties establishing regional nuclear-weapon-free zones.
3 Thank you.
