A concise summary of the main points regarding this article.
Mr Chairperson,
Thank you for giving me the floor.
2 Crimes against humanity are among the most serious crimes of concern to the international community. It is imperative that the international community works together to end impunity for perpetrators and provide justice for victims.
3 Singapore reiterates its appreciation to the International Law Commission for its work on this important topic, which resulted in the Commission’s draft articles and commentaries on prevention and punishment of crimes against humanity.
4 At the 79th session of this Committee, Singapore actively supported engagement, flexibility and compromise, and worked with many delegations, to preserve this Committee’s tradition of decision-making by consensus, in establishing the process for negotiations of a convention on prevention and punishment of crimes against humanity.
5 As we embark on this process, Singapore believes it is important that the substantive outcomes of the Conference of Plenipotentiaries are adopted by consensus, to achieve a convention that gains wide acceptance and implementation, and allow international law to develop in a manner that is inclusive and unfragmented. In this regard, Singapore looks forward to continuing to work constructively and collaboratively with all other delegations at the Conference, to achieve robust, consensus-based outcomes.
6 Thank you for your attention.
